Student Library Passes |
- Twenty-five students per class period will be allowed to use the library.
- The students will be released from their directed study to come to the library.
- Only the library gives out passes for students to come to the library during directed studies. Passes are not to be given out by the directed study teachers.
- Students must obtain a library pass from the library before their directed study period. Students should bring one-half of the library pass to their directed study teacher at the beginning of their directed study. The students should then bring the second half of the pass to the library for their directed study period.
- The library maintains a list of students who have been given passes for each period and takes attendance. Only those students whose names are on the list will be allowed to enter. Students with library passes are to remain in the library for the whole period.
- Any student who abuses the library pass system or whose behavior in the library is not appropriate will lose library privileges and be subject to school discipline.

Student Library Rules |
The Marblehead High School library media center is composed of several areas for teaching and learning activities. These areas include: carrels for quiet study; a table area for small group work; a teaching area for class use and instruction; a lounge area with magazines and newspapers; and a computer research area. Library staff helps students, staff and faculty with their research, homework and recreational reading needs.
We ask for your cooperation in observing our rules and regulations so that we might serve students, staff and faculty as effectively as possible.
- Students will use the main entrance door as the only entrance and exit. The other doors are restricted to emergency use only.
- It is the student's responsibility to obtain a library pass and deliver one half to the directed study teacher and bring the second half to the library. The student is required to stay the entire period.
- Quiet talking is permitted outside of the carrel area.
- Food, beverages and candy are not allowed. Only water is permitted.
- All library materials are checked in and out at the circulation desk which is located at the main entrance. Materials are checked out for a two-week loan period.
- Students must pay for any lost or damaged material. The money will be refunded if the material is found and returned in good condition.
Students in violation of these rules will be removed from the library and will be subject to school discipline. |

Faculty Library Use |
The High School Library staff would like to remind faculty that we are available to work with you and your classes. We teach units on basic library skills. In addition, we teach about resources and research approaches for particular topics such as Lincoln-Douglas debates, the Jazz Age, etc. We also set aside books on reserve for your classes and research topics for faculty such as recommended historical novels on the Puritan era.
In an effort to ensure that the library is a place for quiet study and research, library staff requests that faculty follow a few guidelines when bringing their classes to the library.
- Please sign up in advance if you would like to bring a class to the library. Be sure to sign up no later than 7:30 AM on the day of your requested visit. We are unable to accommodate requests after that time. Due to noise and space, we can not accommodate more than 2 classes in the library at any one time. If you would like the library staff to present strategies and materials for your class, please give us as much notice as possible.
- Please accompany and remain with your class. Students frequently have questions about their research or assignments that only you can answer.
- When the class is in the library, please have them abide by general library rules. Therefore, please remind students that they may not eat or drink, or go to their lockers or the cafeteria. Also, it would be appreciated if they could return any materials they use to their class cart or to the circulation desk so that we can reshelve them.
- Substitutes should bring classes to the library only when it is so specified in the daily lesson plan and has been reserved in advance by the teacher.
